How do I import a WhatsApp chat?
In WhatsApp on your iPhone, open the chat, tap the contact or group name, choose Export Chat, and pick Without Media for a smaller file. iOS will offer a share sheet: choose Fair Copy, or save the ZIP to Files and open it from there. Fair Copy reads the file on your device and turns it into an archive entry.
The screenshots I picked did not read well. What can I do?
Fair Copy reads text using Apple’s on-device Vision framework, and its accuracy depends on the source. Retake the shots with the phone held steady, use full screen brightness, avoid cropping mid-word, and prefer light backgrounds. If a bubble was cut off, add the missing shot and re-run the export.
How do I use the Mac companion?
Install the Mac companion from the link inside Fair Copy on your iPhone. On the Mac, grant it Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access. It reads Messages locally and read-only, then saves a package. Move that package to your iPhone through AirDrop, Files or iCloud Drive, and open it in Fair Copy.
What is the SHA-256 fingerprint on each export?
It is a hash computed on your device from the file itself. If the PDF or its bytes change later, the hash will not match, which lets you show that a file is the same one Fair Copy produced. It does not prove who sent the original messages.
How do I turn on the Face ID lock?
Open Settings inside Fair Copy and turn on the Face ID lock. If Face ID is unavailable, iOS falls back to your device passcode. The lock protects the archive when the app opens or returns from the background.
Where are exports stored, and how do I delete them?
On your device only, in the app’s own SwiftData storage. You can delete individual exports from inside the app. Deleting the app itself removes everything.
I paid but the app still shows the paywall.
Open the purchase screen or Settings and tap Restore Purchases. This re-reads your entitlement from the App Store. If it still does not unlock, email us and tell us which Apple ID region you purchased from.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments and refunds for App Store purchases, so we are not able to issue one. Request it at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple ID you bought with.
Will an export from Fair Copy be accepted by a court?
That is not something we can promise. Fair Copy produces a clean, paginated record with an on-device fingerprint, but whether an authority accepts a given document depends on their rules of evidence, not on the formatting. Speak to a qualified lawyer for advice about your situation.
