Duplicate Finder

Support

Answers to the most common questions, and a way to reach a person if none of them help.

Why does the app ask me to choose folders?

Duplicate Finder runs in Apple’s App Sandbox, so it can only see folders and drives you pick in the macOS open panel. Click Choose Folder, select a folder or drive, and the app remembers it for future scans. Remove a folder from the list at any time to stop scanning it.

How do I let it scan my Photos library?

Open the Photos tab and allow access when macOS asks. If you declined earlier, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos and turn Duplicate Finder on, then reopen the app. Photos are analysed on your Mac and never uploaded.

Some files or folders don’t appear in results.

Make sure the folder is in your scan list and that the drive is connected. System-protected locations and other apps’ private containers cannot be scanned from the sandbox. Very small files may be hidden by the minimum-size filter in Settings.

Is the scan really free?

Yes. The free version scans as often as you like and shows every duplicate, similar photo, large file and the disk map. Moving selected items to the Trash requires Duplicate Finder Pro, a one-time $19.99 purchase.

I cleaned something by mistake. How do I get it back?

Nothing is deleted permanently. For files, open the Trash in the Dock, select the item and choose File > Put Back. For Photos items, open the Photos app, go to Recently Deleted and click Recover. Items stay recoverable until you empty the Trash or Photos removes them from Recently Deleted.

How do I restore Duplicate Finder Pro?

Open the Pro sheet or Settings and click Restore Purchases, signed in to the Mac App Store with the Apple Account that bought it. Pro is a one-time purchase, so it restores on any Mac using that Apple Account.

Is there a subscription?

No. Duplicate Finder Pro is a single non-consumable purchase. There is nothing to renew or cancel.

How do I turn off the menu bar extra?

Open Duplicate Finder Settings and switch off Show in Menu Bar.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all App Store payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account you bought with.
